The Gerry Marshall Trophy, enthusiastically endorsed by none other than Gerry's son Gregor, is far beyond a mere race. It's a vibrant tribute to a man who pushed boundaries, defied norms, and embraced life with infectious enthusiasm. This series, lovingly hosted by the Historic Racing Drivers Club (HRDC), captures the essence of fabulous motor racing from the past in all its glory. As you meander through the paddocks, hues of classic liveries light up the scene, and the crescendo of engines coming to life sets hearts pounding.

Gerry Marshall, a legend not easily confined to the track, was more than a driver; he was an enigmatic entertainer. Tales of his audacious challenges to impromptu sprints and cartwheel races have woven into the fabric of motorsport folklore.

Gerry was not shy of a cheeky flutter and despite his robust stature, he would often challenge anyone who dared take him on to sprint or cartwheel races - the wager could be cold hard cash or commonly the next round at the bar. At first sight, one might envisage that big Gerry was there for the taking, but those foolish enough to take him on were left astounded a Gerry’s athleticism, be it behind the wheel, running or cartwheeling, the man was fast in all areas and rarely emerged without the spoils.

Gerry’s fearless approach to racing, coupled with an irresistible charm, has left an indelible impression on drivers and fans alike. The Gerry Marshall Trophy stands as a testament to this spirit, inviting competitors to pay homage to the man who brought us so much entertainment over years.

Furthermore, outside of the Gerry Marshall Trophy, it should be stressed that the Gold Cup weekend is the perfect weekend's motorsport – bringing a number of different racing clubs together from the VSCC (Vintage Sports Car Club) representing the Pre-war cars, the HGPCA (Historic Grand Prix Cars Association) with grids of Formula 1 cars, the MRL (Motor Racing Legends) with 50s and 60s sports cars plus other grids of Formula 3 and special saloons.
